Pat Clarke to president 10:02 pm (0 minutes ago)Dear President Bush, As we all know, September 11th, 2001 changed the way we Americans have had to live our lives. The atrocities that were committed made us rethink the ways in which we secure our homeland, and I applaud you for creating the Department of Homeland Security to help make this wonderful country of ours, a safer place in which to live. It is in this light, that I humbly ask you to suspend the security clearance of Mr. Karl Rove, pending the outcome of the Plame investigation. It was your administration's stance, that if any administration official was involved in the leak of Mrs. Plame's name, that they would be let go. Furthermore, Scott McClellan stated in 2003 that "The President knows that Karl Rove wasn't involved," "It was a ridiculous suggestion," and, "It's not true." So certainly, it seems obvious to me, that it would behoove you to suspend Mr. Rove's clearance at this time, lest any impropriety fall on your administration. The recent revelations that Mr. Rove was in fact involved, and did reveal the identity of a covert CIA operative, has put our great nation into greater danger and this fact is worrisome to myself and many others. Federal law prohibits such activity as an act of treason. Specifically, under federal law, it is a crime to "intentionally disclose any information identifying" a covert agent "to any individual not authorized to received classified information." 50 U.S.C. 421(a). Which opens up the probability that Mr. Rove has committed an illegal act. You have rightfully put homeland security, and the war on terror, at the forefront of your agenda. And history will show that these matters were strong points. Please do not let partisan or personal beliefs get in the way of doing what is right for the American people that you so proudly represent. If all culpability of Mr. Rove has been proven to be false, you could surely reinstate his security clearance, but until the dust has settled, I implore you to take homeland security into consideration by doing what is right. Thank you for your time and your service to this great country of ours. Sincerely, Patrick Clarke Elementary Education Student
